Functions and strategies for enhancing zinc availability in plants for sustainable agriculture

Muhammad Hamzah Saleem et al.

Summary: Zinc is a crucial micronutrient for plants, playing a significant role in their biochemistry and metabolism. Zinc deficiency is a widespread issue in crops worldwide, leading to production losses and compromised nutritional quality. Improving zinc usage efficiency through root structure alteration, exploring zinc absorption and transport mechanisms, and utilizing biotechnological techniques are effective strategies for sustainable agriculture.

Elevated zinc concentrations did not induce thiols in spinach (Spinacia oleracea) and parsley (Petroselinum crispum)

Johanna Krippner et al.

Summary: Parsley and spinach cultivars showed differences in metal uptake, translocation, and resistance, with spinach being more susceptible to cadmium toxicity compared to parsley. Despite similar zinc tissue concentrations, parsley did not exhibit zinc toxicity symptoms.

The role of antioxidant mechanism in photosynthesis under heavy metals Cd or Zn exposure in tobacco leaves

Fuwen Yang et al.

Summary: Cd exposure leads to dual limitations on photosynthesis in tobacco leaves, while Zn exposure mainly affects Gs. Cd increases ROS generation rate and H2O2 content, while Zn does not induce ROS burst. Cd negatively impacts photosynthesis by enhancing POD activity and inhibiting SOD and CAT activities, whereas Zn benefits SOD and POD activities.
