Changes in the cortical network during sleep stage transitions

Yingjie Song et al.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in cortical interactions during sleep stage transitions and observed different patterns in different frequency bands. It was found that the transitions between sleep stages were not necessarily opposite, and more significant changes were observed in the deepening process of sleep. During sleep stage transitions, changes in the inflow and outflow strength of various cortical regions led to regional differences.

Electroencephalogram-Based Brain Connectivity Analysis in Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness

Yuzhang Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the characteristics of brain connectivity in patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness (pDOC) using quantitative EEG (qEEG). The results showed that there were significant differences in brain connectivity between pDOC patients and healthy individuals, indicating abnormal brain function. The quantifiable indicators of brain connectivity, such as DTABR, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Granger's causality, and phase transfer entropy, can be used as biological markers to distinguish between pDOC and healthy individuals.

Changes in Power and Information Flow in Resting-state EEG by Working Memory Process

Gi-Hwan Shin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in resting-state EEG neurodynamics during the working memory (WM) process. The results showed frequency-specific power and information flow patterns in delta, alpha, and beta bands. Particularly, there was a significant increase in alpha power after WM retrieval. Correlations between resting-state EEG characteristics and WM performance were found only in the alpha band. These findings suggest that resting-state EEG has a significant impact on brain mechanisms and cognitive function related to WM.

Multiscale Wavelet Transfer Entropy With Application to Corticomuscular Coupling Analysis

Zhenghao Guo et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a multiscale wavelet transfer entropy (TE) method that can detect and quantify both linear and non-linear cortico-muscular coupling, including interactions across different temporal scales. Experimental results validate the potential of this method in detecting information flow between EEG and EMG signals for subjects with and without significant CMC or GC.

Cross-validated Adaboost Classification of Emotion Regulation Strategies Identified by Spectral Coherence in Resting-State

Serap Aydin

Summary: In this study, the quantitative relationship between Cognitive Emotion Regulation strategies (CERs) and EEG synchronization levels is explored for the first time, revealing a strong association between CERs and associative memory functions and cognition. The findings suggest a close correlation between neuroplasticity and cognitive skills. High classification accuracies were obtained using cross-validated adaboost classifiers based on full-band COH estimations.

Detection of schizophrenia using hybrid of deep learning and brain effective connectivity image from electroencephalogram signal

Sara Bagherzadeh et al.

Summary: This study presents a hybrid brain effective connectivity and deep learning framework for the detection of schizophrenia using multichannel EEG signals. By measuring the effective connectivity matrix and using pretrained CNN-LSTM models, the proposed method achieves high accuracy in identifying SZ patients from healthy controls.

Phase Lag Index of Resting-State EEG for Identification of Mild Cognitive Impairment Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Yuxing Kuang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate potential early alterations in PLI in T2DM-MCI patients and found that it could distinguish between T2DM-MCI and T2DM-NC groups. Results showed that the alpha-band phase lag index was significantly decreased in the T2DM-MCI group and positively correlated with MoCA score, indicating moderate classification accuracy.

The Effect of Music and White Noise on Electroencephalographic (EEG) Functional Connectivity in Neonates in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Akiyoshi Akiyama et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of music and white noise on functional connectivity in neonates undergoing EEG monitoring in the NICU. Results showed significant effects of music and white noise on theta, lower alpha, and upper alpha bands, with differences observed between music and white noise. The feasibility of using auditory interventions to detect changes in functional connectivity related to theta and alpha bands in neonates was demonstrated.
