The Accurate Assessment of Muscle Excitation Requires the Detection of Multiple Surface Electromyograms

Taian Martins Vieira et al.

Summary: When sampling EMGs with one pair of electrodes, it is not sufficient to assume that the detected signal reflects the net muscle excitation. Multiple EMG detections and consideration of electrode-fiber alignment are necessary for accurate assessment of muscle excitation. It is advisable to exercise caution when drawing inferences from individually collected EMGs.

Influence of High Pass Filter Settings on Motor Evoked Potentials

Petyo Nikolov et al.

Summary: In this study, MEP amplitudes were significantly higher at 10 and 20 Hz with high pass filter settings compared to 100 Hz, but SNR did not differ among HPF settings. An active notch filter significantly improved SNR, indicating that higher HPF above 50 Hz may reduce noise and notch filter usage may enhance SNR.
