Effect of surface structure on the antithrombogenicity performance of poly (-caprolactone)-cellulose acetate small-diameter tubular scaffolds

Hao Wang et al.

Summary: Three types of poly(-caprolactone)-cellulose acetate (PCL-CA) composite nanofiber membranes were prepared with different collectors to form tubular scaffolds. The large-mesh (LM) tubular scaffold showed better mechanical and hydrophilic properties, higher cell viability, and improved antithrombogenicity performance. This development of small-diameter artificial blood vessel is a significant step toward solving the problem of thrombosis.

Prolonged Antibacterial Activity in Tannic Acid-Iron Complexed Chitosan Films for Medical Device Applications

Pascale Chevallier et al.

Summary: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a global burden, causing significant mortality and financial costs. Microbiological contamination of implantable medical devices is an important cause of HAIs. A novel antimicrobial drug-eluting system was developed using chitosan and loaded with gentamicin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic. The addition of tannic acid and iron decreased swelling and degradation, resulting in sustained gentamicin release for up to 35 days.

Electrospun regenerated Antheraea pernyi silk fibroin scaffolds with improved pore size, mechanical properties and cytocompatibility using mesh collectors

Shengzhi Zou et al.

Summary: By using conductive metal meshes as collectors to prepare modified regenerated Antheraea pernyi silk fibroin (RASF) scaffolds, significant improvements can be made in pore size, porosity, and mechanical properties. The new scaffold (RASF-7mmG) exhibits higher cell viability, deeper cell permeation, and faster cell migration compared to traditional intact plate-collected scaffolds.
