Spexin ameliorates skeletal muscle insulin resistance through activation of GAL2 receptor

Mei Yu et al.

Summary: The study shows that spexin can reverse obesity-induced insulin resistance and increase glucose consumption in skeletal muscles through activation of the GAL2/GLUT4 signaling pathway. It suggests that spexin may be a novel therapeutic target for hyperglycemia and insulin resistance.

Review of Novel Potential Insulin Resistance Biomarkers in PCOS Patients-The Debate Is Still Open

Jagoda Kruszewska et al.

Summary: Research on proteins and peptides that regulate metabolism as potential markers for insulin resistance in conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and PCOS has gained interest. PCOS, an endocrine disorder associated with hyperandrogenemia and ovulation failure, often presents metabolic abnormalities. Studies have shown decreased levels of nesfastin-1, myonectin, omentin, and neudesin in PCOS patients, while increased levels of other agents like preptin, gremlin-1, neuregulin-4, xenopsin-related peptide, xenin-25, and galectin-3 were observed. However, contradictory findings exist, particularly for lipocalin-2. Further research is needed to confirm these hypotheses and understand the role of these factors in PCOS-related metabolic complications.

Spexin Promotes the Proliferation and Differentiation of C2C12 Cells In Vitro-The Effect of Exercise on SPX and SPX Receptor Expression in Skeletal Muscle In Vivo

Natalia Leciejewska et al.

Summary: SPX and its receptors, GalR2 and GalR3, have significant effects on the metabolism, proliferation, and differentiation of skeletal muscle cells. Through modulation of protein expression and cell signaling pathways, SPX promotes the proliferation and differentiation of C2C12 cells, as well as myoblast fusion into myotubules. Additionally, exercise stimulates the expression of SPX and GalR2, leading to an increase in SPX concentration in the blood serum.

Treatment with spexin mitigates diet-induced hepatic steatosis in vivo and in vitro through activation of galanin receptor 2

Mengyuan Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that spexin could improve non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) by activating the GALR2 signaling pathway, thereby enhancing lipolysis and fatty acid oxidation to reduce hepatic lipid deposition.

Update on PCOS: Consequences, Challenges, and Guiding Treatment

Kathleen M. Hoeger et al.

Summary: PCOS, a common reproductive endocrine disorder in women, presents challenges in diagnosis and treatment. The International PCOS network, jointly sponsored by ESHRE and ASRM, developed evidence-based guidelines over several years, but satisfaction with diagnosis and treatment options is low among both clinicians and patients. Recent research has highlighted important findings in diagnosis and treatment, as well as ongoing challenges in understanding and managing PCOS.

Vaspin, a novel adipokine in woman granulosa cells physiology and PCOS pathogenesis?

Alice Bongrani et al.

Summary: Vaspin is highly expressed in the human ovary and enhances granulosa cells steroidogenesis, proliferation, and viability through GRP78 in a concentration-dependent manner. Obese women and the normal-weight ECHO group show significantly higher levels of vaspin in both granulosa cells and follicular fluid, with the ECHO group also exhibiting the highest expression rates of GRP78.

lnc-MAP3K13-7:1 Inhibits Ovarian GC Proliferation in PCOS via DNMT1 Downregulation-Mediated CDKN1A Promoter Hypomethylation

Xueying Geng et al.

Summary: This study revealed a novel mechanism of DNA hypomethylation induced by lncRNAs, particularly lnc-MAP3K13-7:1, in patients with PCOS, leading to impaired proliferation of GCs. The overexpression of lnc-MAP3K13-7:1 inhibited DNMT1 expression, resulting in increased CDKN1A/p21 expression and cell cycle arrest in the G(0)/G(1) phase. This mechanism acts as a critical pathway in regulating GC growth and may provide potential therapeutic targets for PCOS-related infertility.

Expression and role of resistin on steroid secretion in the porcine corpus luteum

Patrycja Kurowska et al.

Summary: The study found that resistin and its receptors exhibit different expression levels in the porcine corpus luteum during different luteal phases, and they can be regulated by hormones. Additionally, resistin can regulate progesterone and estradiol secretion by influencing steroidogenic enzyme expression and kinase phosphorylation.

Serum spexin, adiponectin and leptin levels in polycystic ovarian syndrome in association with FTO gene polymorphism

Fatma Beyazit et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between fat mass related adipocytokines and FTO gene polymorphisms in PCOS women, as well as their relationship with disease development. The results suggest that serum adiponectin and leptin levels may serve as independent markers for PCOS diagnosis, and FTO gene polymorphisms also increase the risk of PCOS development.

Mouse Spexin: (II) Functional Role as a Satiety Factor inhibiting Food Intake by Regulatory Actions Within the Hypothalamus

Matthew K. H. Wong et al.

Summary: Spexin (SPX) functions as a satiety factor in mice by activating GalR3 receptors in the hypothalamus to modulate feeding signals. The peptide production in the glandular stomach postprandially contributes to the rise of circulating SPX, which then exerts inhibitory effects on feeding by differential modulation of feeding regulators and their receptors within the CNS.
