The genus Phaeorrhiza is reported for the first time in India, with the discovery of two taxa, P. nimbosa and P. sareptana var. sphaerocarpa, growing in the alpine region of north-western Himalaya. A detailed description and illustrations are provided to aid in their identification.
The genus Phaeorrhiza H. Mayrhofer and Poelt is recorded for the first time from India, which is represented by P. nimbosa (Fr.) H. Mayrhofer and Poelt, and P. sareptana var. sphaerocarpa (Th. Fr.) H. Mayrhofer and Poelt. The taxa are found growing in the alpine region of north-western Himalaya. A detailed description is provided along with figures to facilitate easy identification.
