Characterization of Xanthomonas arboricola pv. pruni from Prunus spp. orchards in Western Balkans

Summary: This study provides new insights into the Xanthomonas arboricola pv. pruni (Xap) bacterial population on peach and apricot in the Western Balkans region. The study reveals the homology and similarity between Xap strains from different countries and provides information on their virulence, host specialization, and susceptibility to antibiotics. The study also establishes the immunity of P. fruticosa to Xap. This research offers valuable knowledge for breeding Prunus cultivars and developing control strategies for Xap.

EU microbial pest control: A revolution in waiting

Summary: The slow implementation of microbial pest control in the EU is mainly attributed to the lengthy approval process, limited funding, lack of integrated approaches, and slow adoption of integrated pest management. While the EU has caught up with the USA in research output and approval of MBCAs, the progress in authorization of MBCPs has been slow and uneven. Countries with more agricultural land and higher research intensity have made significant progress, but efforts are needed to improve the capacity of laggard EU Member States in promoting microbial pest control.

Occurrence and Identification of Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. brasiliensis and Dickeya dianthicola Causing Blackleg in Some Potato Fields in Serbia
