New Insights to Regulation of Fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase during Anoxia in Red-Eared Slider, Trachemys scripta elegans

Aakriti Gupta et al.

Summary: The red-eared slider undergoes physiological and metabolic changes in anaerobic conditions, including the regulation of the key enzyme fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase. The activity of FBPase decreases significantly in anaerobic conditions, along with reduced sensitivity to its substrate Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate. Increased threonine phosphorylation in the anoxic FBPase suggests an important role in suppressing the enzyme's activity and inhibiting gluconeogenesis in the liver.

Skeletal muscle of torpid Richardson's ground squirrels (Urocitellus richardsonii) exhibits a less active form of citrate synthase associated with lowered lysine succinylation

Stuart R. Green et al.

Summary: This study investigates the regulation of citrate synthase in the muscle tissue of a small mammalian hibernator by comparing functional and structural properties. The results show that citrate synthase is inhibited in the ground squirrel skeletal muscle during hibernation, possibly mediated by decreases in succinylation. This inhibition is reflected in the enzyme activity and levels of lysine succinylation.
