Imidazole-pyridine hybrids as potent anti-cancer agents

Baladhandapani Aruchamy et al.

Summary: This study synthesized fifteen novel imidazole-pyridine-based molecules and tested their activity against lung and colon adenocarcinoma cell lines. The compounds 5a, 5d, 5e, and 5f showed the highest activity. In-silico investigations revealed their strong binding affinity to GSK-3 beta, a protein upregulated in liver cancer tissues. Compound 5d exhibited the highest antitumor activity in liver cancer cell lines. These findings suggest the potential therapeutic impact of GSK-3 beta-targeting compounds for hepatocellular carcinoma patients.

Direct nucleophilic substitutions of allylic alcohols with 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds: Synthetic design, mechanistic aspects and applications

Olfa Mhasni et al.

Summary: Nucleophilic allylic substitutions have been widely used in organic chemistry for constructing carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds. This review focuses on the previous reports on the direct nucleophilic substitutions of allylic alcohols with 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds, catalyzed by various transition metals and rare earth metals. The regioselectivity in Pd-catalyzed allylic alkylations is compared with that of other metals, and the applications of these reactions in complex molecule and natural product synthesis are presented.
