Study of Radio Transients from the Quiet Sun during an Extremely Quiet Time

Surajit Mondal et al.

Summary: In this work, we studied a class of solar transients called Weak Impulsive Narrowband Quiet Sun Emission (WINQSEs), which have impulsive, narrowband, and ubiquitous characteristics. We analyzed data from an extremely quiet time and found numerous WINQSEs, confirming their impulsive nature and presence in the quiet Sun. Our findings also revealed differences from previous work. This routine detection of WINQSEs aims to generate interest in the community for a deeper understanding of them.

Preparing for solar and heliospheric science with the SKAO: An Indian perspective

Divya Oberoi et al.

Summary: The Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) is a highly ambitious radio telescope that will revolutionize the study of the Sun, corona, and heliosphere, and provide answers to many unanswered questions in these fields. It offers the potential for groundbreaking discoveries by exploring an unexplored phase space. The Indian solar and heliospheric physics community has been actively preparing for this opportunity and playing a leading role in utilizing precursor instruments for SKAO research. This paper provides an overview of the current progress and future goals of this endeavor.

Detection of Ubiquitous Weak and Impulsive Nonthermal Emissions from the Solar Corona

Rohit Sharma et al.

Summary: The hypothesis of nanoflares suggests that weak energy releases are responsible for coronal heating. Mondal et al. recently reported weak and impulsive emissions that may be radio counterparts of nanoflares. In this study, using data from the Murchison Widefield Array, the authors detect bursts of weak impulsive emissions from the Sun and analyze their properties, including brightness temperatures, distributions, morphologies, durations, and associations with extreme-UV images.

LOFAR observations of radio burst source sizes and scattering in the solar corona

Pearse C. Murphy et al.

Summary: Research indicates that density fluctuations in the solar corona are the main cause of radio wave scattering, resulting in larger source sizes. Fitting elliptical Gaussians to LOFAR observations of Type IIIb radio bursts directly can help avoid introducing spurious effects.

Signatures of Type III Solar Radio Bursts from Nanoflares: Modeling

Sherry Chhabra et al.

Summary: Research suggests that nanoflares can produce type III radio bursts on closed loops, potentially addressing the solar coronal heating problem. The characteristic frequency drifts of type III bursts can be detected using the time-lag technique. In closed loops, the frequency spectrum of type III bursts is expected to be extremely steep, with significant emission only occurring within a narrow range of loop lengths.

A Search for the Counterparts of Quiet-Sun Radio Transients in Extreme Ultraviolet Data

Surajit Mondal

Summary: The study attempts to identify the EUV counterparts of nonthermal radio transients from the quiet Sun and estimate the energy deposited into the corona during the event. It shows that this group of radio transients is associated with a brightening observed in the EUV waveband and produced approximately 10^25 ergs of energy.
