Wide-Angle-Tail (WAT) Radio Sources

Christopher P. O'Dea et al.

Summary: In this paper, we review the properties of Wide-Angle-Tail (WAT) radio sources, which are powerful, bent radio sources typically associated with the dominant galaxy in a cluster or group. The radio morphology properties of WATs include a sudden jet-tail transition, overall bending of the tails to one side, and non-parallel tails. The mechanism for the rapid jet-tail transition is uncertain, but it seems to occur near the transition from the host ISM to ICM.

The LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey V. Second data release

T. W. Shimwell et al.

Summary: This article presents the data release of LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey, which covers 27% of the northern sky with 120-168 MHz images. The catalogue includes 4,396,228 radio sources, most of which have never been detected at radio wavelengths before. The images were derived from extensive and automated data processing, including correction for instrumental properties and ionospheric distortions. The release of Stokes I, Q, U, and V images, as well as calibrated uv-data, enables the thorough scientific exploitation of this unique dataset.

How Does Environment Affect the Morphology of Radio AGN?

Melissa Elizabeth Morris et al.

Summary: A study on galaxies with Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) finds that those with bent radio jets are more likely to be located in dense environments like galaxy groups and clusters, while those with unbent jets are more likely to exist alone or in pairs. The study also reveals that when considering AGN in groups of three or more galaxies, those with bent jets are more likely to be in halos with more galaxies than those with unbent jets. Additionally, AGN with unbent jets are more likely to be the brightest galaxy in their groups, and groups hosting AGN with bent jets have a higher density of galaxies compared to those hosting AGN with unbent jets.

Clusters' far-reaching influence on narrow-angle tail radio galaxies

K. de Vos et al.

Summary: By analyzing 208 highly bent narrow-angle tail radio sources in clusters, it was found that their tails tend to be bent radially away from the cluster, indicating predominantly radially inbound orbits. An excess of radio sources with jets bent towards the cluster core was observed near the cluster center, suggesting that these outbound sources fade away after passing pericenter. The presence of radio sources at large radii implies significant deceleration of the inflowing intergalactic medium, creating ram pressure that bends the jets and potentially triggers the radio source.

Dynamics of relativistic radio jets in asymmetric environments

Patrick M. Yates-Jones et al.

Summary: The study shows that relativistic three-dimensional simulations of high-power radio sources propagating in different environments found that jets become unstable towards the end of simulations, developing typical radio morphology even with a Lorentz factor of 5. Jets propagating into denser environments have shorter lobe lengths and brighter hotspots compared to jets propagating into less dense environments. Additionally, the study confirms the observational anticorrelation between lobe length asymmetry and environment asymmetry.

Bent It Like FRs: Extended Radio AGN in the COSMOS Field and Their Large-Scale Environment

Eleni Vardoulaki et al.

Summary: This study delves into the association between observed radio structures and their environment in radio astronomy, particularly focusing on FR-type radio sources. By quantifying distortion using the bent angle (BA), the research explores large-scale surroundings and compares observations with simulations, revealing a potential link between ambient medium evolution and radio structure affecting mechanisms.

Summary: The study reveals that radio sources with narrow opening angles are found in richer clusters, indicating that the cluster environment impacts radio morphology. Additionally, a majority of COBRA bent sources are outgoing and have passed through the cluster center.
