The complex organic molecular content in the L1517B starless core

A. Megias et al.

Summary: Recent observations of L1544 and L1498 show enhanced complex organic molecules (COMs) in the gas phase towards their outer and intermediate-density shells. High-sensitivity observations of L1517B reveal lower detection and abundance of COMs and COM precursors compared to L1544 and L1498. The chemical complexity in these starless cores seems to increase over time, with N-bearing molecules forming first followed by O-bearing COMs.

Amides inventory towards the G+0.693-0.027 molecular cloud

S. Zeng et al.

Summary: Interstellar amides, including acetamide and trans-N-methylformamide, have been detected in a quiescent Galactic centre molecular cloud, suggesting that amides related chemistry is triggered in early evolutionary stages of molecular clouds. The constant abundance ratios of amides observed independently of the evolutionary stages indicate that they remain unaffected by the warm-up phase during the star formation process. The detection of amides together with other precursors can help constrain the amide chemistry in the interstellar medium.

Soluble organic molecules in samples of the carbonaceous asteroid (162173) Ryugu

Hiroshi Naraoka et al.

Summary: The Hayabusa2 spacecraft successfully collected samples from the surface of the asteroid Ryugu and brought them back to Earth. Analyzing the organic molecules extracted from the samples, researchers found a variety of compounds formed by different reactions. These compounds, including amino acids and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, are likely of non-biological origin and could have been formed through aqueous reactions on Ryugu's parent body, similar to organics found in meteorites.

Hydrogen abstraction reactions in formic and thioformic acid isomers by hydrogen and deuterium atoms

G. Molpeceres et al.

Summary: This article discusses the isomerism of organic molecules in the interstellar medium and the mechanisms behind it. By conducting experiments and calculations, the study explores the isomerization processes of formic and thioformic acid, as well as the feasibility of their deuterated counterparts. The results reveal that the trans isomer is more stable on interstellar dust grains, and both isomers of thioformic acid exhibit higher reactivity. The study also highlights the impact of reaction orientations on the isomerization rate.

These molecules vary in size from two atoms to 70 and can be detected across a wide range of wavelengths. This census provides a summary of the first detection of each molecular species, including details on the observational facility, wavelength range, transitions, and relevant laboratory spectroscopic work. Tentative and disputed detections are also listed, and tables for molecules detected in interstellar ices, external galaxies, protoplanetary disks, and exoplanetary atmospheres are included. Various visual representations of the aggregated data are briefly discussed.

Ionize Hard: Interstellar PO+ Detection

Victor M. Rivilla et al.

Summary: We have detected the presence of phosphorus monoxide ion (PO+) in the interstellar medium for the first time. Our study shows that the abundance of PO+ is larger than other phosphorus-bearing species, indicating its importance in interstellar phosphorus chemistry. The high gas-phase abundance of PO+ is attributed to sputtering of interstellar icy grain mantles and efficient ionization by cosmic rays. New chemical models further confirm the enhanced abundance of PO+ in shocked regions with high cosmic-ray ionization rates.
