Assessing sub-lethal effects of the dinitroaniline herbicide pendimethalin in zebrafish embryos/larvae (Danio rerio)

Shuo Wang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the sub-lethal toxicity of pendimethalin to zebrafish embryos and larvae, and found that high doses of pendimethalin caused developmental abnormalities and reduced locomotor activity in embryos and larvae. Additionally, pendimethalin at concentrations below 5μM had no significant impact on oxidative respiration and reactive oxygen species production in embryos.

Automated Cardiac Chamber Size and Cardiac Physiology Measurement in Water Fleas by U-Net and Mask RCNN Convolutional Networks

Ferry Saputra et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop an AI-based method for the analysis of water fleas' cardiac chambers. It compared U-Net and Mask RCNN, finding that Mask RCNN performed better. The study also investigated the effects of Roundup exposure on the cardiac physiology of water fleas. Overall, this study provides a convenient and robust approach for cardiac chamber size and cardiac physiology measurement in water fleas, with implications for ecotoxicity studies.

Using DeepLabCut as a Real-Time and Markerless Tool for Cardiac Physiology Assessment in Zebrafish

Michael Edbert Suryanto et al.

Summary: In this study, we explored the feasibility of using a deep learning tool called DeepLabCut (DLC) for markerless cardiac physiology assessment in zebrafish embryos. The trained DLC model was able to accurately detect multiple cardiac parameters and outperformed other traditional methods. This new technique provides automation, precise detection, and real-time labeling, and can be applied to analyze zebrafish with cardiovascular defects. The results of this study contribute to a better understanding of the cardiovascular system and abnormalities.

An OpenCV-Based Approach for Automated Cardiac Rhythm Measurement in Zebrafish from Video Datasets

Ali Farhan et al.

Summary: Cardiac arrhythmia is a common problem in cardiology, and zebrafish are utilized as a powerful animal model for analyzing heart morphology and rhythm. This study developed an innovative approach using OpenCV to measure heart rate and rhythm in zebrafish larvae, showing good consistency with results validated using ImageJ. The method established in this study can also be applied to other invertebrates for cardiac rhythm measurement.

Real-time heart rate monitoring system for cardiotoxicity assessment of Daphnia magna using high-speed digital holographic microscopy

Ik Hwan Kwon et al.

Summary: Machine vision techniques have been applied to monitor heart rates in aquatic bioassays for cardiotoxicity assessment. A real-time heart rate monitoring system was developed for individual water fleas in this study, showing that heart rates decrease with increasing ROS levels from H2O2 exposure. Establishing a relaxation heart rate before measurements can improve the accuracy of toxicity assessment in aquatic conditions.
