The impact of climate change on air source heat pumps

Paolo Maria Congedo et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of climate change on heat pumps and finds that a rising average temperature facilitates the transition to electric heat pumps in winter. However, differences are found among locations, scenarios, and RCPs. The research also shows a significant increase in cooling energy consumption in almost every climate zone, while winter energy consumption decreases.

Summary: Defrost control using digital image processing is a potential, economical, and energy-saving solution for airsource heat pump or refrigeration system. However, the accuracy of frost state recognition with existing digital image processing methods decrease dramatically under complex operating condition. Therefore, a new method based on optimized gray level cooccurrence matrix and new characterization parameter combination to extract image texture characteristics, combining extreme learning machine algorithm (OGLCM-ELM), is proposed for the first time.

Rui Tang et al.

Summary: The type and degree of frosting on the outdoor heat exchanger of an ASHP in different climate zones during the heating season are greatly influenced by the local environmental temperature and humidity. This study aimed to categorize the frosting types and degrees in order to provide better guidance on antifrosting and defrosting technologies. The results showed significant variations in frosting patterns in different cities, with sublimation frosting being the main type in some areas. Additionally, a frosting model was developed to determine the degree of frosting in each city.

Zhaowei Xu et al.

Summary: Field monitoring and decoupling analysis of 103 ASHP systems in Beijing during the 2018-2019 heating season identified three key influencing factors on performance: terminal type, operating load rate, and capacity regulation characteristics. Floor heating systems had a higher SCOP due to lower water temperature compared to radiator systems. Oversized capacity was a common issue, leading to increased energy consumption and power usage by the circulating pump.
