Mathematical modeling and multi-objective optimization on the rectangular micro-channel heat sink

Xue-shuo Shang et al.

Summary: This study develops a mathematical model of a rectangular microchannel heat sink (MCHS) and derives the thermal resistance using structural parameters based on the differential equation of energy conservation. Both experimental and numerical methods are employed to validate the model. A multiobjective optimization model is also established to simultaneously minimize the thermal resistance and the pumping power. The mathematical model and the multiobjective optimization method are beneficial for the design of an MCHS owing to the high convenience and reliability.

Flow boiling heat transfer mechanisms and flow characteristics of pump-driven two-phase flow systems used in data center cooling br

Xiaoxuan Chen et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the heat transfer mechanisms, capacity, and flow characteristics of the boiling process in a pump-driven two-phase flow system commonly used in data center cooling. It was found that under the working conditions in this experiment, nucleate boiling was the dominant heat transfer mechanism in both smooth and threaded tubes, and the heat transfer coefficient remained constant as the mass flow rate decreased and vapor quality increased. Furthermore, the threaded tube had little impact on the heat transfer performance, and commonly used coolants R134a and R410A were tested and verified the above conclusions.

Anqi Zou et al.

Summary: This study proposes a bi-objective topology optimization method for heat sink design in microelectronics, considering the trade-off between heat transfer and hydraulic performances. A series of Pareto frontiers were generated to select the optimal design, and an analytical formula was obtained for fast determination of weight parameters. The consideration of temperature-dependent physical properties and the validation of a 3D reconstructed model further enhance the effectiveness and robustness of the design method.
