Mechanistic insights into efficient photocatalytic H2O2 production of 2D/2D g-C3N4/In2S3 photocatalyst by tracking charge flow direction

Huabin Chen et al.

Summary: By tracking the flow direction of electrons, the significantly improved photocatalytic performance of 2D/2D g-C3N4/In2S3 heterostructures for H2O2 production in organic electron donor-free condition is revealed. The experiments confirm that in the g-C3N4/In2S3 heterostructures, photoexcited electrons move from g-C3N4 to In2S3, while holes remain in g-C3N4, effectively separating the charges. Radical trapping experiments confirm that the photoexcited electrons accumulated on the conduction band of In2S3 in g-C3N4/In2S3 heterostructures generate H2O2 through a two-step one-electron reduction reaction of O2.

Advances in designing heterojunction photocatalytic materials

Zongpeng Wang et al.

Summary: In the context of increasing energy crisis and global warming, semiconductor-based photocatalysis has attracted significant attention for its potential applications in green energy production, CO2 reduction, and pollutant degradation. However, the photocatalytic activity of semiconductors is limited by issues such as fast recombination of electron-hole pairs, restricted electron mobility, limited optical absorption, and insufficient active sites. Designing appropriate heterojunctions has been proven as a promising method to address these issues and enhance photocatalytic performance. This review systematically presents the working mechanism of various heterojunctions, summarizes recent advances in designing efficient heterojunction photocatalysts, and provides perspectives on future directions in the field.
