In Situ Pore-Making and Heteroatom Doping of Carbon Nanofibers Electrode for High Performance Vanadium Redox Flow Battery

Minghua Jing et al.

Summary: The electrochemical performance of ECNFs electrode for VRFB is significantly enhanced by introducing urea and subsequent thermal treatment, leading to the formation of N, O dual-doped carbon nanofibers with multiscale pores. These electrodes exhibit larger surface area, better wettability and improved electroactive sites, reducing charge transfer resistance and diffusion resistance for vanadium ions redox reactions. The VRFB equipped with these novel carbon nanofibers electrode shows increased discharge capacity and energy efficiency, paving the way for regulating internal microstructure and composition of electrodes in various energy storage systems.
