A review on removal of mercury from flue gas utilizing existing air pollutant control devices (APCDs)

Ying Li et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the recent progress of mercury removal from flue gas by existing air pollution control devices (APCDs). The sulfuric acid desulfurization system can remove most of Hg2+, while the hybrid fabric filters (HFs) are effective in removing HgP and part of Hg2+. However, the removal of Hg-0 is still a challenge.

Charge-distribution modulation of copper ferrite spinel-type catalysts for highly efficient Hg0 oxidation

Yingju Yang et al.

Summary: The study proposed a strategy of charge distribution modulation to design novel catalysts, and successfully developed copper ferrite spinel-type catalysts with superior catalytic performance that can efficiently oxidize Hg-0 over a wide temperature range. The research also revealed the mechanism and key steps of Hg-0 oxidation on copper ferrite.

Elemental mercury removal by I--doped Bi2WO6 with remarkable visible-light-driven photocatalytic oxidation

Yili Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, iodine-doped Bi2WO6 composites were synthesized through a one-step hydrothermal method to evaluate their photocatalytic efficiency in gas-phase elemental mercury removal under visible-light irradiation. The results showed that 1.0 wt.% iodine-doped Bi2WO6 exhibited the optimal Hg-0 removal efficiency due to reduced potential energy in the conduction band, decreased recombination rate of electron-hole pairs, and accelerated charge transfer. The density functional theory calculations suggested that iodine doping occurred in the (WO4)(2-) layer, facilitating the adsorption of oxidized HgO on the surface of the doped Bi2WO6.
