Novel orthorhombic silicane nanosheet as a sensing material for acrolein and propanol-a first-principles investigation

V Nagarajan et al.

Summary: In this research, an orthorhombic silicane nanosheet (Ortho-SiNS) was used as a sensing element to detect acrolein and propanol at ambient conditions. The stability and electronic features of Ortho-SiNS were verified and discussed through formation energy and band structure analysis. The interaction behavior of the target air pollutants on Ortho-SiNS was investigated through Bader charge transfer, relative band gap changes, and adsorption energy calculations. It was found that Ortho-SiNS can be employed as a promising chemical sensor for detecting acrolein and propanol molecules from cigarette smoke.

Adsorption studies of camphene and eucalyptol molecules on orthorhombic germanane nanosheet- A first-principles investigation

V. Nagarajan et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel orthorhombic germanane nanosheet (ortho-GeNS) was used as a sensing material to detect camphene and eucalyptol molecules, indoor air pollutants. The structural and dynamical stability of ortho-GeNS was confirmed, and its electronic features were analyzed. The adsorption properties of camphene and eucalyptol on ortho-GeNS were investigated, demonstrating that the target molecules are physisorbed. Overall, the results suggest that ortho-GeNS can be employed as a valuable chemiresistive sensor for monitoring indoor air quality.

DNA nucleobase interaction driven electronic and optical fingerprints in gallium selenide monolayer for DNA sequencing devices

Kuldeep Kumar et al.

Summary: The interaction between DNA nucleobases and monolayer GaSe was studied, showing modulation in electronic structures and optical properties, suggesting the potential of GaSe monolayer for polarized optical sensors. The order of binding energy per atom is C > T > G > A, with quantum capacitance as a key parameter for sensing applications. Electron energy loss spectra exhibit red shift in photon energy on nucleobase adsorption in UV region.

The Ti2CO2 MXene as a nucleobase 2D sensor: A first-principles study

Jose D. Gouveia et al.

Summary: MXenes, a newly discovered class of two-dimensional materials, show promising potential for biomedical and electronic applications. First-principles calculations on the titanium carbide MXene surface reveal physisorption as the dominant mechanism for nucleobases, with molecules sitting parallel to the surface at a distance of about 2.5A. The moderate adsorption energies and van der Waals interactions suggest the Ti2CO2 MXene's suitability as a nucleobase sensor.

Reducing the Energy Band Gap of Cobalt Hydroxide Nanosheets with Silver Atoms and Enhancing Their Electrical Conductivity with Silver Nanoparticles

Montakan Suksomboon et al.

Summary: The study found that tuning the energy band gap of Co(OH)(2) nanosheets with silver atoms and enhancing their electrical conductivity with silver nanoparticles can effectively improve the overall photoelectrochemical properties and charge storage performance. In addition, light illumination can affect the material's charge storage capacity, and the charge storage mechanisms under dark and light conditions are also different.
