Magnetization manipulation using ultra-short light pulses

Yong Xu et al.

Summary: This review discusses the results of deterministic magnetization switching using ultra-fast laser pulses, known as all-optical switching (AOS). The response of these magnetic systems can be categorized into two groups based on the helicity of the incident light. The review focuses on the experimental and theoretical aspects of all-optical helicity-independent switching (AO-HIS) from Gd-based systems and other emerging materials, as well as recent progress in all-optical helicity-dependent switching (AO-HDS).
