Large anomalous Nernst effect and nodal plane in an iron-based kagome ferromagnet

Taishi Chen et al.

Summary: The anomalous Nernst effect (ANE), which converts heat flow into transverse electric voltage, is caused by the Berry phase of the electronic wave function near the Fermi energy EF. Therefore, it can be used as a sensitive probe to detect a topological state with large Berry curvature. In this study, we observe a high ANE exceeding 3 microvolts per kelvin above room temperature in the kagome ferromagnet Fe3Sn with a Curie temperature of 760 kelvin. The large ANE is a result of a nodal plane that produces a flat hexagonal frame with strongly enhanced Berry curvature. Our discovery of the large ANE in Fe3Sn opens up possibilities for exploring the functionality of flat degenerate electronic states and developing flexible film thermopiles and heat current sensors.

Phonon Anomalies Associated with Spin Reorientation in the Kagome Ferromagnet Fe3Sn2

Ge He et al.

Summary: Polarization- and temperature-dependent Raman data along with theoretical simulations were conducted on the Kagome ferromagnet Fe3Sn2, revealing good agreement between experimental energies and simulations. Analysis of the line widths showed relatively strong phonon-phonon coupling. Weak anomalies in temperature-dependent frequencies of A1g modes were observed around 100 K.

Magnetic Orderings from Spin-Orbit Coupled Electrons on Kagome Lattice

Jin Watanabe et al.

Summary: In this study, we numerically investigated the magnetic orderings on the kagome lattice based on the tight-binding Hamiltonian of electrons. We found that the kagome lattice model can exhibit both ferromagnetic and noncollinear antiferromagnetic orderings depending on the electron filling. Additionally, the spin-orbit coupling plays a crucial role in stabilizing the noncollinear orderings.

Anomalous transport due to Weyl fermions in the chiral antiferromagnets Mn3X, X=Sn, Ge

Taishi Chen et al.

Summary: The recent discoveries of large zero-field Hall and Nernst effects in antiferromagnets Mn3X (X=Sn, Ge) are considered fingerprints of magnetic Weyl nodes near the Fermi energy, highlighting the importance of magnetic topological states in condensed matter research. This review combines previous reports with new transport measurements on high-quality Mn3Sn and Mn3Ge single crystals, identifying magnetotransport signatures specific to chiral anomalies and planar Hall effect, suggesting the essential role of magnetic Weyl fermions in producing large transverse responses in the absence of magnetization.

Rare Earth Engineering in RMn6Sn6 (R = Gd-Tm, Lu) Topological Kagome Magnets

Wenlong Ma et al.

Summary: Rare-earth magnet RMn6Sn6 exhibits quantum transport properties similar to TbMn6Sn6, indicating the presence of Chern gapped Dirac fermions. This suggests that rare-earth elements can effectively manipulate the Chern quantum phase in kagome magnets, demonstrating a close relationship between rare-earth magnetism and topological electron structure.

Magnetic and geometric control of spin textures in the itinerant kagome magnet Fe3Sn2

Markus Altthaler et al.

Summary: This study investigates the magnetic domain patterns of Fe3Sn2 using magnetic force microscopy, revealing the effects of geometrical confinement, magnetic fields, and their combination on the evolution of magnetic structures. The research demonstrates that magnetic fields and thickness play significant roles in influencing the magnetic patterns, and suggests that competing magnetic interactions can stabilize different types of topologically trivial and nontrivial spin structures in centrosymmetric magnets.

Recent Progress on 2D Kagome Magnets: Binary TmSnn (T = Fe, Co, Mn)

Hongrun Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper reviews recent experimental progress on binary kagome metals using STM, STS, and ARPES, highlighting the electronic structure features of flat bands and Dirac cones in 2D kagome materials. The interplay between frustrated kagome geometry, frustrated magnetism, and topological magnetism in these compounds opens new opportunities for research on strongly correlated topological kagome magnetic materials.
