Exceptionally clean single-electron transistors from solutions of molecular graphene nanoribbons

Wenhui Niu et al.

Summary: Only single-electron transistors with a certain level of cleanliness can be used for quantum experiments. The solubility of graphene nanoribbons can be greatly enhanced by edge functionalization, resulting in ultra-clean transport devices with sharp single-electron features. These results demonstrate that molecular graphene can yield exceptionally clean electronic devices directly from solution.

Ultrafast Shaped Laser Induced Synthesis of MXene Quantum Dots/Graphene for Transparent Supercapacitors

Yongjiu Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, an in situ strategy using a temporally and spatially shaped femtosecond laser was reported to synthesize MXene quantum dots (MQDs) uniformly attached to laser reduced graphene oxide (LRGO) for ultratransparent electrodes with exceptional electrochemical capacitance. The mechanism and plasma dynamics of the synthesis process were analyzed. The MQD/LRGO supercapacitor exhibited high flexibility and durability, ultrahigh energy density, long cycle life, excellent capacitance, high transparency, and high performance.

Scalable Dry-Pressed Electrodes Based on Holey Graphene

Yi Lin et al.

Summary: Holey graphene is a derivative of graphene with through-thickness holes, and it has various advantages in energy storage applications, including high electrical conductivity, high surface area, mechanical robustness, and chemical inertness. The presence of holes enhances mass transport and allows dry pressing of robust electrodes without the need for toxic solvents or binders. This unique property broadens the application horizon in energy storage.

Growth Mechanism of Ni-graphene Composite Coating on Mild Steel: A Combined Experimental and Molecular Dynamics Study

Ruiyu Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a combination of experimental studies and molecular dynamics simulations was used to gain a better understanding of the growth process of Ni-graphene composite coating. Conventional electrochemical techniques and atomic force microscopy were employed to investigate the electrochemical kinetics, nucleation process, and three-dimensional morphology of the deposits. Molecular dynamics simulations were used to model the deposition process and predict the surface roughness evolution. The results showed that the Ni-graphene electrodeposition followed instantaneous nucleation and diffusion-controlled 3D growth at the initial stage. The composite coatings exhibited higher grain density, finer grain size, and rougher surface morphology compared to pure Ni coating. Optimal graphene oxide concentration resulted in enhanced corrosive resistance and uniform graphene configuration. This work provides deeper insight into the complex deposition process of Ni-graphene composite coating through systematic experimental tests and MD simulations.

High efficient rGO-modified Ni foam supported Pd nanoparticles(PRNF) composite synthesized using spontaneous reduction for hydrogen peroxide electroreduction and electrooxidation

Limei Sun et al.

Summary: A novel approach of two-step spontaneous reduction was developed to fabricate the 3D rGO-modified Ni foam supported Pd nanoparticles (PRNF) composite for efficient H2O2 electroreduction and electrooxidation. The PRNF electrode exhibited excellent catalytic activity and stability in NaOH or H2SO4 solutions, delivering high power density and long term cycle stability in Al-H2O2 semi-fuel cell and H2O2-H2O2 fuel cell configurations. This study introduces a facile and low-cost electrode preparation method with potential for high-performance energy storage/conversion devices.

Summary: Iron-nickel alloys and their composites with Al2O3 particles were produced using an electro-winning method and studied for their magnetic properties and corrosion resistance. It was found that the presence of Al2O3 nanoparticles in the alloy led to a decrease in magnetization and an increase in coercivity, with the modified alloy showing better corrosion resistance in NaCl solution.
