Exploitation of Natural and Recycled Biomass Resources to Get Eco-friendly Polymer

Hamdy M. Naguib et al.

Summary: In this study, a new environmental-friendly polyester was prepared for the first time using natural oleic acid and biomass resources. The resulting PES-LBM exhibited improved thermal properties and hardness. The liquification reaction of biomass and its reaction with oleic acid successfully led to the formation of the LBM-based polyester with longer curing period and lower emitted temperature during crosslinking.

Antidepressants as Endocrine Disrupting Compounds in Fish

William Andrew Thompson et al.

Summary: As the use of antidepressant drugs increases globally, concerns have been raised about their detection in aquatic habitats and their potential impact on non-target organisms, including fish. Previous studies have mainly focused on the behavioral effects of antidepressants on fish, but there is growing evidence suggesting that these drugs may also act as endocrine disruptors, affecting reproduction, growth, and stress response, especially when exposed during early development.

Occurrence and removal of pharmaceuticals in wastewater treatment plants

Omar Fawzi Suleiman Khasawneh et al.

Summary: This paper systematically reviews the global occurrence and removal of 43 pharmaceutical compounds in municipal wastewater treatment plants from 2010 to 2020, assessing their daily mass load and emissions. Significant variation in pharmaceutical concentrations between regions is found, with higher influent concentrations in Asian regions. Environmental risk assessment shows that 12 monitored pharmaceuticals pose a high potential risk to aquatic ecosystems. Guidelines and regulations are discussed to mitigate pharmaceutical occurrence in the environment.
