Residual stress control of hot-rolled strips during run-out table cooling

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: This study proposed two residual stress control methods based on model calculation: water flow central crown and center wave compensation control. The former mainly controls the uniformity of strip transverse temperature and microstructure, while the latter is controlled by mutual compensation of internal stresses. The results showed that the center wave compensation control method is more effective in reducing residual stress and improving flatness.

Analytical model for temperature prediction of hot-rolled strip based on symplectic space Hamiltonian system

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: This study focused on predicting the temperature distribution of steel strips during run-out table cooling. An analytical model, different from traditional ones, was presented, which introduced the two-dimensional heat conduction equation into the symplectic space Hamiltonian system. The symplectic analytical solution of the two-dimensional temperature field was calculated without any assumptions or predetermination of the solution forms. The accuracy of the symplectic analytical solution was verified by comparing with the computed results from a finite element model.

Analytical model of hot-rolled strip residual stress and flatness in run-out table cooling

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the formation mechanism of residual stress induced by incompatible deformation caused by temperature and phase transformation in the run-out table cooling stage of hot-rolled strip based on the fiber rods model. It also establishes an analytical model for calculating residual stresses at different run-out table cooling stages and introduces a strip buckling model to explore the relationship between residual stress and flatness defects. The accuracy of the analytical model is verified through a multi-field coupled finite element model based on the validation of measured data, and the distribution of residual stress calculated by the analytical model is consistent with the finite element model.

Numerical analysis of the strip crown inheritance in tandem cold rolling by a novel 3D multi-stand FE model

Lianjie Li et al.

Summary: The researchers propose a new method for calculating the strip crown inheritance factor and quantitatively analyze the effects of entry strip crown on exit strip crown and flatness using a three-dimensional finite element model. The results show that the strip crown inheritance factor is closely related to strip plastic rigidity and is influenced by pass reduction and strip plastic rigidity.

Modelling stress relaxation after hot deformation: Microstructure-property relationships in Nb-bearing steels

Jianwei Zhao et al.

Summary: Stress relaxation after hot deformation is modeled by considering various physical phenomena, including dislocation recovery, recrystallization, and precipitation. The model incorporates new formulations, such as a vacancy-mediated dislocation climb approach for dislocation recovery. The softening behavior of 6 microalloyed steel grades is tracked and compared with experimental data. The approach is also discussed for its application in additive manufacturing microstructural relaxation.

Predicting stress and flatness in hot-rolled strips during run-out table cooling

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the evolution of stress and flatness of steel strips during run-out table cooling by establishing a finite element model. The results show that uneven stress distribution during the cooling process can cause flatness defects, and the degree of edge wave is related to the initial temperature drop distance in the edge region of the strip.

Influence mechanism of rolling force on strip shape during tandem hot rolling using a novel 3D multi-stand coupled thermo-mechanical FE model

Lianjie Li et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel 3D multi-stand coupled thermo-mechanical finite element model to investigate the influence of rolling force on strip shape during tandem hot rolling. It was found that the rolling force increases strip crown, but the regulation efficiency decreases with the increase of stand. Additionally, lateral metal flow and strip plastic rigidity have a coupled effect on the regulation efficiency of rolling force on strip flatness.

New analytic buckling solutions of side-cracked rectangular thin plates by the symplectic superposition method

Zhaoyang Hu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a first attempt to extend an up-to-date symplectic superposition method to linear buckling of side-cracked rectangular thin plates. The problems are introduced into the Hamiltonian system, and a side-cracked plate is then divided into several sub-plates that are analytically solved by the symplectic superposition method. The final analytic solution of a side-cracked plate is obtained by integration of the solutions of the sub-plates, providing a rational approach to exploring more analytic solutions without predetermination of solution forms.

Mechanism of lateral metal flow on residual stress distribution during hot strip rolling

Jianwei Zhao et al.

Summary: During hot strip rolling, lateral metal flow can reduce the risk of buckling deformation by changing the longitudinal residual stress. The self-correcting effect of lateral metal flow on residual stress was confirmed through experiments, indicating that metals tend to flow towards the direction helping reduce the maximum residual compressive stress.
