Efficient and selective approach to biomass-based amine by reductive amination of furfural using Ru catalyst

Hongtao Zou et al.

Summary: A powerful and practical approach to biomass-based amine, reductive amination of furfural (1a) to furfurylamine (2a), was developed using Ru catalyst (Ru/BNC) supported on boron/nitrogen co-doped carbon (BNC) with hydrous hydrazine (N2H4·H2O) as a nitrogen source and hydrazone as an intermediate. The Ru/BNC catalyst exhibited high efficiency and selectivity in promoting 1a/N2H4-to-2a transformation with a yield exceeding 99%.

Nanoparticles and single atoms of cobalt synergistically enabled low-temperature reductive amination of carbonyl compounds

Bingxiao Zheng et al.

Summary: This study presents the synthesis of primary amines via low-temperature and selective reductive amination using Co-based catalysts. The catalyst efficiently converts aldehydes/ketones into primary amines with high yields at 35 degrees C. The unique advantage of the catalyst is its ability to selectively convert substrates with different reduction-sensitive groups into primary amines.

Evolution of water structures in metal-organic frameworks for improved atmospheric water harvesting

Nikita Hanikel et al.

Summary: By conducting single-crystal x-ray diffraction experiments and density functional theory calculations, we deciphered the water-filling mechanism in the state-of-the-art water-harvesting metal-organic framework MOF-303. The evolution of water structures led us to modify the pores and precisely modulate the binding strength of water molecules, resulting in higher water productivity and tunability of regeneration temperature and enthalpy without compromising capacity and stability.

Recent Progress in Transition-Metal-Catalyzed Asymmetric Reductive Amination

Noor U. Din Reshi et al.

Summary: Asymmetric reductive amination (ARA) is a concise and operationally simple method for the synthesis of chiral amines, where the process involves condensation of a carbonyl group with an amine/ammonia and enantioselective reduction of the generated intermediate. The use of a chiral transition metal catalyst facilitates the activation of reductant and stereoselective transfer of hydrogen to the intermediate imine/enamine. The research in this area has significantly advanced in recent years, with the development of highly efficient and general ARA methodologies for various challenging carbonyl and amine partners.

Synergistic effect of Pt/Ce and USY zeolite in Pt-based catalysts with high activity for VOCs degradation

Yijun Shi et al.

Summary: Pt/Ce-USY catalysts show superior activity for DCE degradation compared to Pt/USY catalysts, owing to the synergistic effect between abundant acid sites and strong oxidizing sites. For non-chlorinated VOCs degradation, both Pt/USY-r and Pt/Ce-USY-r catalysts exhibit good low-temperature activity, with low T-90 values for benzene, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane degradation, attributed to the active Pt species dispersed on the surface of USY zeolite. The loading of Pt promotes the deep oxidation of CH3Cl and C2H3Cl intermediates to CO2 and inhibits carbon deposition, increasing the durability of the catalyst for VOCs degradation, mainly due to the strong Pt-CeO2 interaction.

Single-Crystal Cobalt Phosphide Nanorods as a High-Performance Catalyst for Reductive Amination of Carbonyl Compounds

Min Sheng et al.

Summary: The study reported the successful synthesis of single-crystal cobalt phosphide nanorods containing coordinatively unsaturated Co-Co active sites, which serve as a new class of air-stable, highly active, and reusable heterogeneous catalysts for the reductive amination of carbonyl compounds. The air stability and high activity of the Co2P NRs is noteworthy, as conventional Co catalysts are air-sensitive and show no activity for this transformation under mild conditions. P-alloying is therefore of considerable importance for nanoengineering air-stable and highly active non-noble-metal catalysts for organic synthesis.
