The Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker metric and the principle of equivalence

Fulvio Melia

Summary: The evidence for a Universe expanding at a constant rate has been accumulating for over a decade. Recent studies have further strengthened this inference by examining the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker metric in relation to Einstein's principle of equivalence. This paper demonstrates and confirms the result by directly testing the self-consistency of four well-known FLRW cosmologies, showing that only the constantly expanding models are consistent with the principle of equivalence.

Initial energy of a spatially flat universe: A hint of its possible origin

Fulvio Melia

Summary: This passage discusses the evidence for a Big Bang origin of the universe and the mystery surrounding its cause. It explores the refinement of the range of possible initial conditions based on current physical theories, focusing on the spatial flatness of the universe and its implications. The passage also raises questions about the quantum beginning and the existence of fluctuations with nonzero energy.

Missing large-angle correlations versus even-odd point-parity imbalance in the cosmic microwave background

M-A Sanchis-Lozano et al.

Summary: Recent research has found that there is a maximum correlation angle in the two-point angular temperature correlations of cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation, which contradicts the prediction of standard cosmology. The angular power spectrum of the CMB also shows a dominance of odd-over-even parity multipoles. This paper examines the relationship between these features and their impact on the theoretical fit to the Planck 2018 data. The results suggest that considering both the maximum correlation angle and the parity imbalance is crucial for optimizing the fit.

Causality, unitarity, and the weak gravity conjecture

Nima Arkani-Hamed et al.

Summary: This study explores the shift in charge-to-mass ratio for extremal black holes in the context of effective field theory, constrained by unitarity and causality. The results demonstrate that the change in Q/M ratio is directly proportional to the on-shell action shift, ensuring compliance with the Weak Gravity Conjecture.

Structure formation and the matter power-spectrum in the Rh = ct universe

Summary: Inflation affects quantum fluctuations differently in different cosmic epochs, shaping the matter power spectrum. Research shows that another mechanism in the R-h = ct universe can explain the observed matter power spectrum without relying on the ΛCDM model.

Large scale anomalies in the CMB and non-Gaussianity in bouncing cosmologies

Ivan Agullo et al.

Summary: This study suggests that anomalies observed in the CMB at large angular scales may originate from a cosmic bounce that occurred before the inflationary era. This bounce introduces a new physical scale, breaking the scale invariance of inflation. By considering a family of bounces characterized by a couple of parameters, the study demonstrates how excitations and correlations can explain the observed anomalies.

Symmetries in Quantum Field Theory and Quantum Gravity

Daniel Harlow et al.

Summary: This paper refines and establishes a set of old conjectures about symmetries in quantum gravity using the AdS/CFT correspondence. It shows the absence of bulk global symmetries in AdS/CFT and discusses how long-range bulk gauge symmetries lead to global boundary symmetries. The results are extended to higher-form symmetries and the weak gravity conjecture is applied to more general gauge groups.

Hint of a truncated primordial spectrum from the CMB large-scale anomalies

Fulvio Melia et al.

Summary: This paper investigates potential anomalies in the fluctuation spectrum of the cosmic microwave background temperature, suggesting that the cutoff in the primordial power spectrum may explain both the low level of correlation at large angles and missing power in the low multipole moments of the angular power spectrum. The study confirms that introducing this cutoff does not affect the overall consistency between Planck-ΛCDM prediction and measurements at l30.

Merging the weak gravity and distance conjectures using BPS extremal black holes

Naomi Gendler et al.

Summary: The text discusses the charge-to-mass structure of BPS states in N = 2 compactifications of Type IIB string theory on Calabi-Yau three-folds and its implications for the Swampland Conjectures in the presence of multiple gauge and scalar fields. It shows that in infinite distance limits, the BPS bound coincides with the black hole extremality bound and the charge-to-mass vectors of the BPS states lie on degenerate ellipsoids with only two non-degenerate directions. It provides general bounds on the mass decay rate of the tower of states in terms of the black hole extremality bound, implying lambda >= 1/6.
