Highly efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production by platinum modified ferroelectric SrBi4Ti4O15

Longbin Chen et al.

Summary: Combining metal with ferroelectrics is an effective strategy to significantly improve the photocatalytic water splitting efficiency of ferroelectrics. In this study, we fabricated SrBi4Ti4O15 (SBTO) nanosheets and deposited different quantities of Pt nanoparticles to form heterojunctions, aiming to find the optimal Pt loading ratio. The optoelectronic characterizations confirmed that the Pt-modified SBTO nanosheets exhibited broadened absorption of visible light and generated more long-lived charge carriers. The photocatalytic hydrogen production reached 11700 μmol g(-1) with continuous illumination for 3 hours from the sample containing 6 wt% Pt, which demonstrated a much higher hydrogen evolution rate compared to other ferroelectric materials in similar reaction systems. Our work provides a valuable and feasible solution for hydrogen production from water.

In Situ Formation ZnIn2S4/Mo2TiC2 Schottky Junction for Accelerating Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution Kinetics: Manipulation of Local Coordination and Electronic Structure

Qing Xi et al.

Summary: One of the advantageous means to improve photocatalytic hydrogen evolution (PHE) kinetics is by regulating electronic structures of the active site through manipulating the local coordination. In this work, ZnIn2S4/Mo2TiC2 Schottky junctions are designed through interfacial local coordination, resulting in an established electronic unidirectional transport channel. The enhanced charge transfer and separation as well as optimized hydrogen adsorption energy in the ZnIn2S4/Mo2TiC2 photocatalyst contribute to its superior PHE rate under visible light, reaching 3.03 times that of the pristine ZnIn2S4. This study provides insights for preparing MXene-based Schottky catalysts to accelerate PHE kinetics.
