A Series of Soluble Thieno-Fused Coronene Nanoribbons of Precise Lengths

Xuan Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a rare type of graphene nanoribbon (GNR) based on coronene, with unique optoelectronic properties, was synthesized using two different approaches. The resulting structurally precise and soluble thieno-fused coronene nanoribbons (CR-1 to CR-4) consist of up to four coronene units connected through benzene rings. The photophysical properties of these nanoribbons were characterized in solution and supported by theoretical calculations.

Thiophene functionalized porphyrin complexes as novel bipolar organic cathodes with high energy density and long cycle life

Xing Wu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new type of organic molecules as cathode materials for batteries, which have high charge storage capability and fast kinetic response. When CuDETP is used as the cathode material, it exhibits reversible capacity and high specific energy density at high current densities, and has extremely long cycle life, which is of great significance for the molecular design and application of organic electrodes.

Understanding the mechanism of capacity increase during early cycling of commercial NMC/graphite lithium-ion batteries

Jia Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the capacity increase observed in the early stage of Li-ion battery cycling. The results show that the increased capacity mainly originates from the graphite anode, and larger depth of discharge and high temperatures accelerate this capacity increase.

Construction of Heptagon-Containing Molecular Nanocarbons

Chaolumen et al.

Summary: Molecular nanocarbons containing heptagonal rings have garnered increasing interest due to their ability to induce negative curvature and alter properties through interaction with adjacent rings. However, synthetic strategies for heptagon-embedded molecular nanocarbons remain limited due to challenges in heptagon formation and incorporation.

Open-Shell Graphene Fragments

Wangdong Zeng et al.

Summary: The electronic properties of finite-sized graphene fragments are strongly dependent on their topological structures, especially when they possess extended zigzag edges. Synthesis of open-shell molecules with unique magnetic activity is challenging, and can be predicted and analyzed using Clar's sextets and density functional theory. Their magnetic activity and quantum properties make them promising materials for carbon-based spintronic and quantum devices.

A Family of Superhelicenes: Easily Tunable, Chiral Nanographenes by Merging Helicity with Planar π Systems

David Reger et al.

Summary: A straightforward synthetic route was designed to create a family of pi-extended helicenes called superhelicenes. By altering the 5-membered ring, a versatile library of molecular building blocks was realized, allowing for easy tuning of both structure and features. Physico-chemical characterizations confirmed the concept, showing potential for outstanding hole transporting properties in charge-carrier mobilities.
