Regulating the activity of intrinsic sites in covalent organic frameworks by introducing electro-withdrawing groups towards highly selective H2O2 electrosynthesis

Xiaohui Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, researchers introduced chemical groups with different electron-withdrawing abilities into oxidized carbon catalysts as additional regulation factors, aiming to break the catalytic limit. Results showed that the catalytic activity was positively associated with the electron-withdrawing ability of the additional groups. The well-tailored COF-CN achieved an ultrahigh H2O2 selectivity and yield, allowing it to be directly used for wood pulping and waste paper recycling. This additional chemical influence design has universal potential beyond the current electrocatalytic limit.

One-Dimensional Covalent Organic Frameworks for the 2e- Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Shuhao An et al.

Summary: In this study, one-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (1D COFs) were used for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and demonstrated excellent catalytic performance. Compared to two-dimensional COFs (2D COFs), 1D COFs showed larger electrochemically active surface areas and higher selectivity and activity. This work paves the way for the development of low-dimensional COFs for electrocatalysis.

Precise Modulation of Carbon Activity Sites in Metal-Free Covalent Organic Frameworks for Enhanced Oxygen Reduction Electrocatalysis

Jianchuan Liu et al.

Summary: Metal-free dibenzo[a,c]phenazine-based covalent organic frameworks (DBP-COFs) serve as excellent ORR electrocatalysts, with JUC-650 exhibiting exceptional catalytic performance in alkaline electrolytes. Experimental investigations and theoretical calculations show that modulation of the frameworks' electronic configuration leads to more efficient ORR processes. Moreover, the DBP-COFs can be used as air cathode catalysts for zinc-air batteries, rivaling the performance of commercial Pt/C.

The Enhancement of Selectivity and Activity for Two-Electron Oxygen Reduction Reaction by Tuned Oxygen Defects on Amorphous Hydroxide Catalysts

Junheng Huang et al.

Summary: Amorphous catalysts have higher activity and selectivity compared to their crystalline counterparts due to their unique coordination unsaturated properties. This study reports the preparation of hybrids of graphene oxide supporting amorphous metal hydroxide through a solvent-controlled precipitation method. The investigation reveals that the electrocatalytic activity and selectivity of the catalyst are dependent on the coordinated metal catalytic sites and the disordered structure. In situ characterization techniques and density functional theory calculation confirm the importance of the degree of OH* poisoning in selective catalysis of oxygen reduction reaction for H2O2 production.

A Crystalline Partially Fluorinated Triazine Covalent Organic Framework for Efficient Photosynthesis of Hydrogen Peroxide

Haozhen Wang et al.

Summary: The TF50-COF catalyst, a partially fluorinated, metal-free, imine-linked two-dimensional triazine covalent organic framework, demonstrates high selectivity and stability in O-2 photoreduction into H2O2. By varying the proportion of fluorine substitution, the catalyst maximizes interlayer interactions, improves crystallinity, accelerates carrier transfer, and enhances photostability. The catalyst achieves a high H2O2 yield rate of 1739 mu mol h(-1) g(-1) and an apparent quantum efficiency of 5.1 % at 400 nm, surpassing the performance of previously reported nonmetal COF-based photocatalysts.
