Application of Ultraviolet-Visible Absorption Spectroscopy with Machine Learning Techniques for the Classification of Cretan Wines

Aggelos Philippidis et al.

Summary: In this study, the identification, differentiation, and characterization of red and white Cretan wines with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) were conducted using ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy. The combination of spectroscopic results with machine learning-based modeling demonstrated the usefulness of absorption spectroscopy as a cost-effective technique in wine analysis. Clear discrimination among grape varieties and grouping of samples based on aging period and container type were achieved for the first time.
