In vivo near-infrared fluorescence and SPECT-CT imaging of colorectal Cancer using the bradykinin B2R-specific ligand icatibant

Kaili Qin et al.

Summary: Cancer molecular imaging with icatibant-based probes can effectively target the upregulated bradykinin B2R in colorectal cancer, allowing for precise tumor detection. These probes exhibited selective uptake in tumors when using NIR fluorescence imaging and SPECT-CT. The biodistribution studies showed high accumulation of the tracer in tumors, making icatibant-based probes promising molecular imaging agents for the detection of bradykinin B2R.

Preclinical Evaluation of CD36-Targeting Antiangiogenic Peptide ABT-510 for Near-Infrared Fluorescence Molecular Imaging of Colorectal Cancer

Ping Luo et al.

Summary: Surgical resection is the preferred treatment for colorectal cancer, but effective targeting probes for imaging-guided surgical navigation are lacking. In this study, a fluorescent probe ABT-510 labeled with fluorescein isothiocyanate or near-infrared dye MPA was developed and found to have high selectivity and specificity for cells or tissues with high CD36 expression. The probe showed excellent tumor delineation characteristics and antiangiogenic effects, making it a desirable tool for CRC imaging and surgical navigation.

PD-1 and PD-L2 expression predict relapse risk and poor survival in patients with stage III colorectal cancer

Mehmet Zengin et al.

Summary: The study found that PD-1 and PD-L2 are associated with the prognosis of colorectal cancer patients and serve as independent poor prognostic factors. These biomarkers may be used to predict relapse-free survival and overall survival in CRC patients.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
