Exploring the Strain Effect in Single Particle Electrochemistry using Pd Nanocrystals

Jiao Zhao et al.

Summary: Tuning surface strain of heterogeneous catalysts is a powerful strategy for tailoring catalytic activity. However, a clear understanding of strain effect in electrocatalysis at single-particle resolution is still lacking. In this study, we explore the electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) of single Pd octahedra and icosahedra with the same crystal facet and size using scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM). It is revealed that tensilely strained Pd icosahedra display significantly superior HER electrocatalytic activity, highlighting the importance of surface strain on electrocatalytic activity.

Construction of nanoreactors on TiO 2 nanotube arrays as a POCT device for sensitive colorimetric detection

Jingwen Xu et al.

Summary: The study presents the design of hydrophilic patterns on freestanding TiO2 nanotube arrays as nanoreactors for a naked-eye colorimetric assay. These hydrophilic nanoreactors, achieved through the combination of TiO2's photocatalytic property and spatiotemporal controllability of light, enhance the sensitivity of sensing by confining the indicator and analyte in a limited space. This research provides a promising strategy for developing point-of-care testing devices for health monitoring.

Enhanced Electrochemistry of Single Plasmonic Nanoparticles

Wenmin Zhang et al.

Summary: The structure-function relationship of plasmon-enhanced electrochemistry (PEEC) is investigated at the single nanoparticle level using nanoparticle impact electrochemistry. It is found that plasmon-excited hot carrier injection can lower the reaction activation energy and promote the reaction probability and integral charge generated from individual collisions. Additionally, a plasmonic nanoparticle filtering method is established to effectively distinguish different types of plasmonic nanoparticles.

Understanding of chiral site-dependent enantioselective identification on a plasmon-free semiconductor based SERS substrate

Jing Xu et al.

Summary: A plasmon-free semiconductive surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrate is proposed for sensitive chiral recognition and discrimination of enantiomers. Experimental and simulation results indicate that satisfactory enantioselective identification not only requires a homochiral surface, but also largely depends on the chiral center environment differences.

Direct Probing of the Oxygen Evolution Reaction at Single NiFe2O4 Nanocrystal Superparticles with Tunable Structures

Xiaoxi Lu et al.

Summary: The study directly measures the oxygen evolution reaction in single self-assembled superparticles and shows that the NiFe2O4 superparticles' TOF depends on their diameter, while the incorporation of Au nanocrystals significantly increases the TOF, leveling off after a certain concentration. This research provides insights into the intrinsic structure-activity relationship of individual nanocrystal superlattices with tunable structures through direct electrochemical analysis.

Band-like Charge Transport in Phytic Acid-Doped Polyaniline Thin Films

Marco Ballabio et al.

Summary: The research investigates the charge transport properties of phytic acid (PA) doped polyaniline thin films prepared by the surfactant monolayer-assisted interfacial synthesis (SMAIS). The study shows that the charge transport in the samples displays band-like behavior and exhibits state-of-the-art charge carrier mobilities of approximate to 1 cm(2)V(-1)s(-1) in the THz region. Temperature-dependent analysis further supports band-like charge transport, suggesting that impurity scattering primarily limits charge carrier mobility in the films. This work highlights the potential of PA doped polyaniline for organic electronics.
