Galactosyltransferase B4GALT1 confers chemoresistance in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas by upregulating N-linked glycosylation of CDK11p110

Yitian Chen et al.

Summary: The expression of B4GALT1 gene in pancreatic cancer has been found to be associated with patient survival rate, tumor size, metastasis, progression and relapse rate. This gene is upregulated in organoids resistant to chemotherapy and chemoresistant cancer cell lines, and genetic changes in PDAC cells are related to cancer progression and chemoresistance.

GlyinsRNA: a webserver for predicting glycosylation sites on small RNAs

Chunmei Cui et al.

Summary: Versatile RNA modifications, including glycosylation on small RNAs, play important roles in post-transcriptional gene expression regulations. A machine learning predictor, GlyinsRNA, was developed to predict glycosylation sites with high accuracy. The online webserver of GlyinsRNA provides users with predicted glycosylation sites and annotated RNA-binding protein-related motifs for easy access and analysis.

Small RNAs are modified with N-glycans and displayed on the surface of living cells

Ryan A. Flynn et al.

Summary: This study challenges the conventional view that RNA is not a major target of glycosylation by providing evidence that mammals use RNA as a third scaffold for glycosylation. The researchers found that conserved small noncoding RNAs bear sialylated glycans, which are present in multiple cell types and mammalian species. The majority of glycoRNAs were located on the cell surface and were shown to interact with anti-dsRNA antibodies and members of the Siglec receptor family, suggesting a direct interface between RNA biology and glycobiology.

Oncogenic KRAS Recruits an Expansive Transcriptional Network through Mutant p53 to Drive Pancreatic Cancer Metastasis

Michael P. Kim et al.

Summary: The study found that oncogenic KRAS effectors activate CREB1 to interact with mutant p53, promoting PDAC metastasis. Inhibiting CREB1 can reduce the expression of FOXA1 and beta-catenin, slowing down PDAC metastasis.
