Interfacial Polymer Engineered Field Effect Transistor Biosensors for Rapid and Efficient Identification of SARS-CoV-2 N Antigen

Qiumin Peng et al.

Summary: By introducing a polymer layer to shorten the distance between target molecules and the electrode interface, an interfacial polymer-engineered field effect transistor (IPE FET) biosensor was developed for efficient identification of SARS-CoV-2 N antigens in saliva samples. The IPE FET biosensors exhibited high sensitivity and anti-fouling capability, achieving efficient detection of SARS-CoV-2 N antigen in saliva within 5 min with a detection limit of 4.6 fg/mL. In a cohort of 35 simulated throat swab samples, the IPE FET showed an identification accuracy of up to 97.1%, with predictive sensitivity and specificity of 96.0% and 100.0%, respectively. The excellent performance of IPE FET not only provides a strategy to design efficient detection platforms but also suggests a pathway to realize rapid and scalable epidemic screening.

Near perfect classification of cardiac biomarker Troponin-I in human serum assisted by SnS2-CNT composite, explainable ML, and operating-voltage-selection-algorithm

Partha Pratim Goswami et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular diseases have a significant impact on global health, but traditional detection methods are insufficient. Developing a rapid, sensitive, selective, and rugged biosensor for accurate classification and quantification of cardiac biomarkers is crucial for future cardiac healthcare. Researchers have demonstrated a simple and scalable biosensor using a machine learning algorithm to accurately classify troponin-I, a gold standard cardiac biomarker. This study enhances the proposed methodology by incorporating an Operating-Voltage-Selection-Algorithm (OVSA) to boost machine learning accuracy to 100%.

Tear-based MMP-9 detection: A rapid antigen test for ocular inflammatory disorders using vanadium disulfide nanowires assisted chemi-resistive biosensor

Tanmoya Nemai Ghosh et al.

Summary: A tear-based MMP-9 antigen testing platform using vanadium disulfide nanowires was proposed as a sensitive and non-invasive diagnostic tool for ocular inflammatory diseases. Various factors contributing to baseline drifts of the chemiresistive sensor were identified and corrected using thermal treatment, resulting in a more uniform distribution of nanowires. The biosensor showed sub-femto level limits of detection in phosphate buffer saline and artificial tear solution and demonstrated excellent precision in detecting tear MMP-9 using multiplex ELISA.

CdS based chemiresistor with Schottky contact: Toxic gases detection with enhanced sensitivity and selectivity at room temperature

Venkata Ramesh Naganaboina et al.

Summary: Overcoming the selectivity issue and detecting low ppm concentration of gases is crucial for the widespread deployment of gas sensors. This study proposes a strategy to improve the selectivity and sensitivity of cadmium sulfide (CdS) sensors by changing the contact material. Experimental results show that the sensors with Au and ITO contacts have superior selectivity towards NO2 and CO gases, while exhibiting good stability and fast response.

Summary: This study reports three porous OSMS materials based on TCPP, whose porosity and pi-pi interactions were modulated by varying the H-bonding linkage nodes. The compound 1, which has the largest overlap between porphyrin rings and strongest face-to-face pi-pi interactions, exhibits the best performances and represents the first RT NO2 chemiresistive sensing material with low limit of detection and short recovery time.

Effect of indium incorporation, stimulated by UHV treatment, on the chemical, optical and electronic properties of ZnO thin film

Mahmoud Bedrouni et al.

Summary: The importance of using a combination of XPS, AES, UPS, and PL analysis techniques to investigate the chemical composition, optical emission, and electronic structure of undoped and indium-doped zinc oxide thin films has been demonstrated. The physical UHV treatment shows great interest in eliminating contamination and promoting the incorporation of indium into the ZnO matrix. The PL measurements confirm that UHV treatment allows the incorporation of indium and eliminates the visible emission due to impurities and defects.
