Immunolabeling lanthanide nanoparticles for alpha-fetoprotein measurement and cancer cells counting with detection of ICP-MS

Xiaoyan Sun et al.

Summary: A novel approach for measuring AFP using ICP-MS was developed, employing lanthanide nanoparticles as immunolabeling probes. The method demonstrated a linear range of 2e180 ng mL(-1) and a LOD of 0.44 ng mL(-1) for AFP measurement. Cell imaging using laser ablation-ICP-MS confirmed the combination of cancer cells and the probes. Furthermore, the method was successfully applied to count cancer cells in clinical blood samples using time-resolved-ICP-MS, highlighting the potential of lanthanide nanoparticles in clinical diagnosis.
