Nickel hypersensitivity and endovascular devices: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Aurelien M. Gueroult et al.

Summary: Nickel allergy confirmed by patch-test is associated with an increased risk of adverse outcomes following implantation of nickel-containing endovascular devices. Specialists should consider diagnostic patch-testing when faced with patients reporting nickel allergy.

Nickels and tines: the myth of nickel allergy in intracranial stents

Kevin N. Vanent et al.

Summary: This study investigated the nickel release from commonly used intracranial stents and found that the amount of released nickel is negligible. The results suggest that previously reported hypersensitivity reactions to these stents may not be caused by nickel allergy, and patients with nickel allergy can be safely treated with select nickel-containing stents.

Refractory in-stent stenosis after flow diverter stenting associated with delayed cobalt allergic reaction

Shoko Fujii et al.

Summary: This rare case report describes a patient who developed refractory ISS triggered by cobalt allergy after PED placement. The patient presented with delayed parent artery occlusion and severe ISS, which was successfully suppressed with long-term oral steroid and antihistamine therapy. It is suggested that delayed hypersensitivity reaction to cobalt may induce refractory ISS after PED placement.
