Association of Depression and Cardiovascular Disease
Chayakrit Krittanawong et al.
Summary: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality worldwide, and there is a significant impact of psychological health, particularly major depression, on the development and outcomes of cardiovascular disease. A meta-analysis of 26 studies involving over 1.9 million individuals found that depression was associated with increased risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, and any cardiovascular disease. Depression was also linked to higher all-cause mortality and cardiovascular disease mortality.
