Summary: The American Cancer Society predicts that there will be 1,958,310 new cancer cases and 609,820 cancer deaths in the United States in 2023. While incidence trends for most cancers are favorable, prostate cancer saw a significant increase of 3% annually from 2014 to 2019. However, the overall cancer death rate continues to decline due to advances in treatment, with a 33% reduction since 1991.

Extragonadal Germ Cell Tumors of the Mediastinum and Retroperitoneum: A Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results-based Study

David Aguiar Bujanda et al.

Summary: Extragonadal germ cell tumors (EGCT) located in the mediastinum and retroperitoneum are rare entities. This study aimed to determine the clinical features and prognosis of these tumors. The results showed that EGCT continues to pose a challenge for oncologists, with choriocarcinoma and embryonal carcinoma having the poorest prognosis. Urgent improvement of treatment strategies is needed.
