Phylogenomic analyses in Phrymaceae reveal extensive gene tree discordance in relationships among major clades

Diego F. Morales-Briones et al.

Summary: In this study, phylogenomic datasets using genomes and transcriptomes were used to investigate Monkeyflower (Phrymaceae). The results showed that Phrymaceae exhibited monophyly and gene tree discordance was observed among its tribes. The study also identified potential reticulation events and small-scale genome duplications that may have contributed to the macroevolutionary diversification of Phrymaceae.

Ancient and recent introgression shape the evolutionary history of pollinator adaptation and speciation in a model monkeyflower radiation (Mimulus section Erythranthe)

Thomas C. Nelson et al.

Summary: The study uses genome-wide sampling to investigate the phylogenomics of monkeyflowers in Mimulus section Erythranthe. Results reveal a re-interpretation of the sister species relationship between M. lewisii and M. cardinalis, demonstrating the impact of gene flow and introgression on species affinities.

Disentangling Sources of Gene Tree Discordance in Phylogenomic Data Sets: Testing Ancient Hybridizations in Amaranthaceae s.l.

Diego F. Morales-Briones et al.

Summary: This study investigates gene tree discordance in the plant family Amaranthaceae s.l. using a combination of methods, revealing potential ancient and rapid lineage diversification in the family leading to unresolved conflicts. The research highlights the challenges of identifying sources of gene tree discordance, particularly with phylogenetic network methods, and underscores the importance of thoroughly testing for multiple sources of conflict in phylogenomic analyses.
