A three-dimensional modal discontinuous Galerkin method for the second-order Boltzmann-Curtiss-based constitutive model of rarefied and microscale gas flows

S. Singh et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional mixed modal discontinuous Galerkin method based on tetrahedral meshes was developed for simulating flow regimes from subsonic to hypersonic rarefied and microscale gas flows. The second-order constitutive model yielded better results than the first-order model in rarefied and microscale flow regimes.

Progress of the unified wave-particle methods for non-equilibrium flows from continuum to rarefied regimes

Sha Liu et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the breakthroughs in computational methods for multiple-regime flows in the last ten years, focusing on the progress of the accurate and efficient unified wave-particle methods established in recent years. These methods are of great significance for studying the multiple-scale flow mechanism and providing data for aerodynamic designs and thermal protections.

Study of Shock Structures Using the Unified Gas-Kinetic Wave-Particle Method with Various BGK Models

Guochao Fan et al.

Summary: The unified gas-kinetic wave-particle (UGKWP) method is applied to non-equilibrium flows using the ellipsoidal statistical model (ESBGK) and Shakhov model (SBGK). The numerical results show that the SBGK model performs the best in most aspects except the asymmetry parameter, followed by the ESBGK model. Additionally, the UGKWP method with positive-preserving Shakhov PDF improves the prediction performance of stress and heat flux at high Mach numbers compared to the SBGK model.

Improved theory for shock waves using the OBurnett equations

Ravi Sudam Jadhav et al.

Summary: The study thoroughly tests the OBurnett equations for the normal shock wave flow problem across a range of Mach numbers and validates results against direct simulation. It shows the presence of heteroclinic trajectories and thermodynamic consistency in the equations, as well as significant improvements in shock structures compared to Navier-Stokes equations.

Eu's generalized hydrodynamics with its derived constitutive model: Comparison to Grad's method and linear stability analysis

Zhongzheng Jiang et al.

Summary: The study revisited Eu's method to derive a modified moment system and compared it with existing Grad's method. It established a connection between Eu's distribution and Maxwellian and Grad's through Taylor expanding the truncated distribution function. The linear stability analysis of GHE and NCCR model showed that they are unconditionally stable in one-dimensional and multi-dimensional processes.

Numerical simulation of hypersonic reaction flows with nonlinear coupled constitutive relations

Zhenyu Yuan et al.

Summary: Efforts have been made to develop computational models for predicting non-equilibrium flow in hypersonic flows. A generalized hydrodynamic equations (GHE) and a nonlinear coupled constitutive relations (NCCR) model have been proposed for this purpose. The NCCR model shows better accuracy in predicting non-equilibrium phenomena compared to the Navier-Stokes equation, especially in the near continuum region. The importance of the chemical reaction source term in the NCCR model is also demonstrated through comparisons with different gas models.
