Hybrid Laminar Flow Control on A320 Fin: Retrofit Design and Sample Results

Geza Schrauf et al.

Summary: In April/May 2018, a flight test was conducted on the vertical tail plane of an A320 aircraft with a simplified hybrid laminar flow control (HLFC) system, aiming to reduce drag on commercial long-range aircraft. The design principles of the simplified HLFC system, including passive suction, were successfully applied to the retrofit of the A320 VTP, with sample flight test results presented and discussed.
