On generators and relations of the rational cohomology of Hilbert schemes

Summary: This article discusses the study of a graded commutative Q-algebra A(d), which is connected to generalised Hurwitz spaces and moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces with boundary. The article determines two distinct minimal sets of multiplicative generators for A(d), as well as when the lowest degree generating relations occur. Conjectures about the necessary generating relations for A(d) are also proposed based on the determination of a minimal set of generating relations for small values of d.
