Rhodium(iii)-catalyzed successive C(sp2)-H and C(sp2)-C(sp2) bond activation of aryl oximes: synthetic and mechanistic studies

Cheng Li et al.

Summary: The study describes a practical strategy for skeletal diversification through combining selective C-H cleavage with C-C cleavage in a tandem reaction. Rhodium(iii)-catalyzed redox-neutral reaction of aryl oximes and internal alkynes generates novel N-(2-cyanoaryl) indanone imines with good yields, regioselectivities and atom economy, producing water as the only by-product. Experimental and theoretical studies offer mechanistic insights into this transformation, achieving an attractive integration of C-H activation with C-C activation in oxime transformation.

Synthesis of Indenone Derivatives by Rh(III)-Catalyzed C-H Functionalization of Sulfoxonium Ylides with 1,3-Diynes

Sanjeev Kumar et al.

Summary: Here, we report the Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H activation followed by redox-neutral [3 + 2] annulation of sulfoxonium ylides with 1,3-diynes, delivering alkynated indenone derivatives. This method shows a broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and mild reaction conditions.

Ni-Catalyzed Larock Indenone Annulation with Aliphatic- and Silyl-Substituted Alkynes Supported by Mechanistic Analysis

Hannah M. Hynds et al.

Summary: A new method for synthesizing indenones using a nickel-catalyzed annulation reaction is reported. The reaction shows high yields and regioselectivities when using aliphatic- and silyl-substituted alkynes, which have been challenging and underutilized substrate classes. Mechanistic observations aided in the development of this reaction, and the researchers anticipate that these methods will be quickly adopted due to their synthetic ease and versatility.

Diverse reactivity of alkynes in C-H activation reactions

Shyam Kumar Banjare et al.

Summary: Alkynes play a crucial role as coupling partners in transition metal-catalysed reactions. Their ability to effectively coordinate with metal d-orbitals makes them highly versatile for the synthesis of valuable organic molecules. Despite extensive research, there is still a lot more to explore in terms of the reactivity of alkynes and their potential applications.

Synthesis of Indenones through Rhodium(III)-catalyzed [3+2] Annulation Utilizing a Recyclable Carbazolyl Leaving Group

Shiho Ochiai et al.

Summary: The rhodium(III)-catalyzed annulative coupling of 9-benzoylcarbazoles with internal alkynes provides a direct access to variously substituted indanone derivatives through ortho C-H and C-N bond cleavages. The carbazolyl leaving group can be easily recovered and reused for preparing the starting materials.
