Geometrical configuration of hydrocyclone for improving the separation performance

Duanxu Hou et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of hydrocyclone structure on flow field characteristics and separation performance, and proposes three novel hydrocyclones based on traditional types. The results show that different hydrocyclone structures have different impacts on separation performance, and hydrocyclones with a flat-bottom structure can reduce the misplacement of fine particles.

Study on the Desliming Performance of a Novel Hydrocyclone Sand Washer

Xinghua Yang et al.

Summary: A novel hydrocyclone sand washer was developed to improve the grading performance in machine-made sand processing. By connecting different types of hydrocyclones in series, the sand washer achieved better separation efficiency and reduced the loss of quartz sand. Simulation and experimental studies were conducted to optimize the working parameters of the hydrocyclones, resulting in high desliming rate and low quartz sand loss.

Development of an integrated multichannel inlet for improved particle classification in hydrocyclones

Qiang Zhao et al.

Summary: The study developed an integrated multichannel inlet design for hydrocyclones, which significantly improves flow field symmetry, reduces short-circuit flow and circulation flow, and provides strong particle separation effects. Compared to traditional designs, the novel spiral inlet exhibits superior classification performance, including smaller cut-size, higher cut sharpness, and higher capacity.

The effects of solid shear stress and wall roughness on the simulation of cylindrical hydrocyclone classification

Duanxu Hou et al.

Summary: Reasonable numerical conditions are critical for the precision and accuracy of the numerical consequences of hydrocyclones. Factors such as resistance coefficient, wall roughness, and friction packing limit were studied in this paper. As the friction packing limit increases, the cut size decreases and separation sharpness improves, while wall roughness increases the cut size and reduces separation sharpness. Simulation results can be reasonably predicted with specific values for resistance coefficient, friction packing limit, and wall roughness height.

Effects of Wall Roughness on the Separation Performance of Hydrocyclones under Different Inlet Conditions

Qiang Zhao et al.

Summary: Wall roughness is a crucial factor in the manufacture and operation of hydrocyclones, with small roughness deemed acceptable while large roughness can significantly deteriorate performance. The roughness affects pressure-kinetic energy conversion, leading to changes in air core diameter, particle distribution, and separation efficiency. Despite potentially superior results under equal pressure conditions, the adverse effects of wall roughness cannot be completely eliminated.

Optimization study of thickener hydrocyclones

Gregori Ullmann et al.

Summary: An optimization study using a differential evolution algorithm was conducted to find geometric configurations that maximize the thickening potential of hydrocyclones. Three optimal configurations were obtained, with HC hydrocyclone showing the best performance in underflow-to-throughput ratio and energy consumption.
