Conjugated polymers based on selenophene building blocks

Adam V. Marsh et al.

Summary: Semiconducting conjugated polymers, with their intrinsic flexibility, solution processability, and optoelectronic properties, are ideal for next-generation electronic devices. Among them, thiophene is the most commonly used due to its synthetic versatility, polymer backbone planarizing effects, and good optoelectronic characteristics. However, the exploration of other heterocycles, such as selenophene, has been relatively limited. This focus review discusses the challenges and material advantages of incorporating selenophene into conjugated polymer systems, and reviews various strategies to enhance the performance of electronic devices using selenophene-containing polymers.
