Chain Stiffness of Donor-Acceptor Conjugated Polymers in Solution

Scott P. O. Danielsen et al.

Summary: The chain conformations of conjugated polymers, which are important for their optoelectronic properties, have been studied using small-angle neutron scattering. It was found that the persistence lengths of the polymers depend on their molecular structures, particularly the size and branching of pendant side chains. The measured persistence lengths were in agreement with those calculated using density functional theory. Moreover, longer persistence lengths were shown to be correlated with higher charge-carrier mobility, emphasizing the importance of rational molecular design for obtaining conjugated polymers with advantageous optoelectronic properties.

Slow Energy Transfer in Self-Doped β-Conformation Film of Steric Polydiarylfluorenes toward Stable Dual Deep-Blue Amplified Spontaneous Emission

Man Xu et al.

Summary: The photoexcitation dynamics of exciton migration and energy transfer in the self-doped beta-conformation film of polydiarylfluorenes were demonstrated in this study. The energy transfer in PODPF films occurs over a time period of approximately 150 ps, longer than that of PFO, attributed to effective intrachain energy transfer. The stable dual amplified spontaneous emission behavior of PODPF self-doped films originates from individual amorphous and beta-conformation domains.

Increasing the Charge Transport of P(NDI2OD-T2) by Improving the Polarization of the NDI2OD Unit along the Backbone Direction and Preaggregation via H-Bonding

Sichun Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a strategy to improve the charge transport of donor-acceptor (D-A) semiconducting polymers was proposed by increasing the polarization and backbone planarization through hydrogen-bonding interactions. Ethylene glycol (EG) was added to the polymer solution, and hydrogen-bonding interactions were formed between EG and the polymer units. Experimental results showed that the charge transport efficiency was enhanced, and the conformation transitioned from random coil chains to ordered interchain stacking. By fabricating field-effect transistors, it was demonstrated that the electron mobility was significantly improved with the addition of EG.

Summary: The solution aggregation properties of a carbazo[e-derived conjugated [adder polymer (LP) and its non-ladder control polymer (CP) were systematically investigated. LP showed highly robust, temperature-insensitive aggregation behavior, while CP was fully soluble in the solvent without notable aggregates. The low entropy nature of rigid conjugated ladder polymers and their low entropy penalty for aggregation were revealed, which is promising for highly robust intermolecular interactions at high temperatures.
