Recent Advances in Metal-Organic Frameworks for Applications in Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Hana Bunzen et al.

Summary: This review discusses the usage of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and composite materials based on them as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MOFs, with their design variety and high metal ion density, have been studied as a promising class of materials for developing MRI contrast agents. The review highlights important studies and classifies the materials into three groups based on their design and structural properties.

Programmable Drug Release from a Dual-Stimuli Responsive Magnetic Metal-Organic Framework

Muhammad Usman Akbar et al.

Summary: With the increasing incidence of cancer and limitations of traditional drug delivery systems, there is an urgent need to develop novel nanocarriers for sustained targeted drug release. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as potential candidates due to their structural flexibility, defined porosity, lower toxicity, and biodegradability. In this study, a FeMn-based ferromagnetic MOF was synthesized and demonstrated a higher drug loading capacity and rapid drug release behavior in a tumor microenvironment. The MOFs also exhibited low cytotoxicity, making them promising carriers for drug delivery applications.

Melt electrowritten poly(caprolactone) lattices incorporated with silver nanoparticles for directional water transport antibacterial wound dressings

Lei Du et al.

Summary: In this study, an antibacterial wound dressing with directional water transport was proposed. The dressing consisted of a high-resolution PCL lattice and a cotton pad, with AgNPs embedded in the PCL matrix. The addition of AgNPs had no significant impact on the moisture management of the dressing and exhibited antibacterial activity proportional to the concentration of AgNPs.

Polymers for Melt Electrowriting

Juliane C. Kade et al.

Summary: Melt electrowriting (MEW) is a high-resolution additive manufacturing technique based on the electrohydrodynamic processing of polymers, primarily used for fabricating scaffolds in biomedical applications. In addition to the gold standard PCL, other polymers are also processed through MEW, including blends and coated fibers. Future developments focus on printer designs and expanding the range of processable polymers for MEW.

Plasmonic Ag/AgCl/NH2-MIL-88B (Fe) inorganic-organic hybridized heterojunction as visible-light-driven photocatalyst for hexavalent chromium reduction

Mingjun Bao et al.

Summary: This study focuses on constructing an inorganic-organic hybridized heterojunction composite photocatalyst of Ag/AgCl/NH2-MIL-88B (Fe) for effectively photocatalytic removal of Cr (VI). The formed ternary composite showed more stable and higher photocatalytic reduction performance, with a photo-reduction rate of 85.7%, attributed to the high separation and migration efficiency of photogenerated electrons and holes pair. The heterojunction structure and surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag/AgCl enhanced the absorption capacity of visible light, promoting electron excitation and transfer while reducing recombination rate.
