Low-temperature degradation of yttria-stabilized zirconia treated with pulsed laser and annealing techniques

Tomohiro Harai et al.

Summary: Low-temperature degradation (LTD) is a problem for the integrity of zirconia implants. This study investigated the LTD properties of zirconia with surface treatment using nanosecond and picosecond pulsed lasers. The results showed that laser treatments deteriorated the LTD resistance of the materials and additional annealing hindered LTD propagation.

Fabrication of mesoporous zirconia and titania nanomaterials for bone regeneration and drug delivery applications

Mostafa Mabrouk et al.

Summary: Mesoporous materials play an important role in drug delivery and tissue regeneration. In this study, mesoporous zirconia and titania nanopowders were prepared as amoxicillin delivery systems and evaluated using various characterization techniques. The results showed that the amoxicillin-loaded nanopowders exhibited good antibacterial and antifungal activities, and promoted proliferation of human bone osteosarcoma cell line.

Laser surface texturing of zirconia-based ceramics for dental applications: A review

Jide Han et al.

Summary: Laser surface texturing is widely used to modify the surface properties of materials, with a particular focus on improving dental applications utilizing zirconia-based ceramics. However, challenges such as the brittle nature and specific phase structure of zirconia make laser texturing more difficult compared to titanium. Interdisciplinary collaboration between laser engineering, material science, and dentistry is crucial for overcoming these challenges and advancing the field of laser surface texturing for zirconia-based ceramics in dentistry.
