Mesoscale Polymer Surfactants: Photolithographic Production and Localization at Droplet Interfaces

Zhefei Yang et al.

Summary: This paper describes a method of stabilizing fluid droplets by converting thin polymer films into mesoscale objects that adsorb to the droplet surface. These objects, known as mesoscale polymer surfactants (MPSs), can extend as appendages from the droplet surface and exhibit shape sensitivity based on preparation conditions and the properties of the surrounding liquid. The lithographic techniques used in this study allows for differentiation of the wettability of the MPS segments, enabling adhesion to dispersed droplets.
