Electrochemical Synthesis of Rh Nanorods with High-Index Facets for the Oxidation of Formic Acid

Huizhen Dai et al.

Summary: Noble metal catalysts, specifically Pt-group metal nanocatalysts with high-index facets, have shown great potential in efficient fuel cell development. In this study, Rh nanorods with high-index facet (310) were successfully synthesized using square wave potential mediated repeated oxygenated species adsorption/desorption. The electrochemical tests demonstrated that Rh nanorods exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity for the formic acid oxidation reaction, surpassing Rh black catalysts in peak current densities and maintaining higher current density throughout the time domain.

Colloidal Platinum-Copper Nanocrystal Alloy Catalysts Surpass Platinum in Low-Temperature Propene Combustion

Nadia Tahsini et al.

Summary: The study shows that PtxCu100-x catalysts prepared from colloidal nanocrystals are more active than pure Pt catalysts for complete propene oxidation. By carefully controlling the composition and maintaining nanocrystal size, dilute PtxCu100-x alloys with Cu concentrations (15-30% atomic fraction) demonstrate higher activity. This is attributed to the tuning of the electronic structure of Pt, resulting in optimal binding energies of C* and O* intermediates.

Pyrolyzing soft template-containing poly(ionic liquid) into hierarchical N-doped porous carbon for electroreduction of carbon dioxide

Mingdong Sun et al.

Summary: Heteroatom-doped carbon materials have great potential in the electrochemical reduction reaction of CO2. This study reports a unique carbon precursor of soft template-containing porous poly(ionic liquid) that can be directly synthesized via free-radical self-polymerization. The carbonization process without any additive yields carbon materials with adjustable textural properties and N species. The integration of soft-template leads to the formation of hierarchical porous carbon material with a higher surface area and larger pore size. The champion catalyst exhibits high Faraday efficiency and current density in the CO2RR to CO reaction, which is attributed to the abundant graphite N species and hierarchical pore structure.

Seunghwan Lee et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the crystal facets exposed on LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cathodes have a significant impact on the solid nano-interface behavior, with loosely packed {100} facets enhancing lithium ion diffusion and densely packed {111} facets improving cycle stability. Stable {111} facets are particularly effective in suppressing transition metal dissolution and diffusion, leading to a high retention rate of 99.6% after 100 cycles. Additionally, the presence of an amorphous cathode surface layer and twin boundaries inside the cathode are identified as crystallographic origins that hinder battery performance.
